The Inclusive Growth through Decent Work in the Great Rift Valley (PPDP) Project

Background Information

The International Labour Organization, in partnership with SIDA, ILO Social Partners, National Government, the County Governments of Nakuru and Narok, and private sector partners are jointly implementing a 4 year (2018 – 2022) programme titled the “Inclusive Growth through Decent Work in the Great Rift Valley”.

This programme is implemented through a Public Private Development Partnership approach which brings together multi-stakeholders in the public and private sectors, civil society organizations and communities, in a broad endeavour to address development challenges faced by the local communities in Narok and Nakuru Counties and create win-win solutions, where projects are commercially driven while generating significant improvements for people in poverty.

The overall objective of the PPDP is “Poverty reduction and improved living conditions through decent work and access to rights – based services among the rural population in the Great Rift Valley” specifically in Nakuru and Narok counties. The project is structured along 3 main objectives, which are:

Outcome 1: Decent jobs resulting from relevant and quality skills provided by vocational training centres and other training institutions.

Outcome 2: Decent jobs resulting from new and growing businesses created from new relevant informal skills, business development services and access to finance

Outcome 3: Improved community participation in lobbying for increased access to public & social

services and duty bearers accountability in providing social services.
