Cooperative Training for Youth Employment Phase (TVET I)

The Project is the continuation of the first phase of the project “Promotion of Youth Employment and Vocational Training in Kenya” (BMZ No: 2016 67 211). The Project concerns the establishment of Centres of Excellence for Cooperative Training (CoE) at selected public Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutes that shall offer high-quality labour market-oriented training for Kenyan youth in specific trades with a strong engagement of surrounding industries. The purpose of the Project is that Kenyan youth have successfully completed a high-quality labour market-oriented TVET at these newly established CoEs. This is to contribute to improved employment of qualified labor in Kenya

The selected public TVET institutes will be supported in the introduction and implementation of cooperative (oriented towards German dual) training courses, in line with the new Competency Based Education and Training (CBET) framework introduced through the Kenyan TVET Reform in 2013. To this end, each institute will work closely with, at least one company that will support in the introduction and implementation of cooperative training, combining both school- and work-based learning.

With the available funding, it is expected that a maximum of up to five public TVET institutes are to be supported under the Project. The selection of beneficiary TVET institutes for this Project has been carried out based on performance criteria to ensure an efficient, effective and sustainable use of Financial Cooperation funds.

The new CoEs shall act as model institutes for cooperative CBET training in Kenya, exemplifying the introduction of cooperative CBET training to other TVET institutes in Kenya. The CoEs shall further act as assessment and certification centers for other TVET institutes and shall engage in the training of assessors and trainers (class room training and practical training).
